Back at the Plaza - Our Lady of Guadalupe
A stop on Sayulita: Surf Town Walk, a free self-guided tour.
You have come full circle to the plaza. Before you head off, take a closer look at the church on its east side, dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, the most beloved religious figure in Mexico. Her image appears not just inside the church but on murals, candles and dashboards all over the country.
The church is a working parish, so if the doors are open and you step inside, dress modestly, keep your voice low and skip photos during a service. Check locally for current Mass times.
The plaza changes through the day: quiet in the morning, busy with vendors by afternoon and lively after dark, when families come out as the heat breaks. Sit for a while on a bench and watch the town go by. You are a short walk from everything you saw today, so it is easy to return to your favorite spot for sunset on the beach.
Getting here: Walk up Calle Delfines to its end at the plaza, then cross to the church on the plaza's east side.
Did you know?: Mexico's tourism ministry added Sayulita to its Pueblos Magicos program in 2015, a list that honors towns for their character and traditions.
Photo op: Wait for the evening lights to come on and shoot the church facade from across the plaza with people strolling in the foreground.
