Building 7 - STEM Center and Fab Lab
A stop on Skyline College Campus Walk, a free self-guided tour.
Building 7 is home to the sciences and allied health programs, and it's the place to come if you're curious about science, technology, engineering or math. The building was modernized and reopened around 2009, joined to a new science annex with biology and chemistry labs.
On the third floor is the STEM Center, a study and collaboration space with tutoring, counseling and help finding internships, renovated for that purpose in 2019. Next door is the MESA program, which supports students from groups underrepresented in STEM who plan to transfer to four-year science and engineering programs.
Also upstairs is the Fab Lab, a small workshop full of digital fabrication tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters, where students design and build prototypes. It began in 2016 as a partnership with Base 11, and Skyline became the first California community college with a Base 11 innovation center. Look for project work on display when the building is open.
Getting here: Walk back east from Building 12 along the path. Building 7 is on your left, at the west side of the quad.
Did you know?: Fab Labs are a worldwide network of maker workshops that grew out of a program at MIT, so Skyline's lab is part of a family of similar labs around the world.
