Buildings 17 and 18 - Community and Early College
A stop on Canada College Campus Walk, a free self-guided tour.
You are in the cluster of classroom buildings on the upper campus. Building 17, beside you, is home to the college's Cultural Center, a gathering place for students, and to the STAR learning community. Building 18, just to the north, houses Middle College High School.
Middle College is a partnership between Canada and the Sequoia Union High School District. About 100 juniors and seniors are admitted each fall. They finish high school here, earning a diploma from their home high school, while taking real college courses that count toward both high school graduation and college credit. The program covers tuition and textbooks for up to 11 units.
That mix is typical of a community college. On a single path you might pass a high school junior, a recent graduate planning to transfer, a parent finishing a degree at night and a worker training for a new career.
Look at the paved plaza here and notice how the paths fan out to every classroom building on the upper campus.
Getting here: From the north end of Building 9, walk west up the path to the plaza beside Building 17.
Did you know?: Middle College High School students can earn college units that transfer toward a four-year degree before they finish high school.
Photo op: Stand at the edge of the plaza and frame Building 17 with the paths branching toward the other buildings.
