A stop on Skyline College Campus Walk, a free self-guided tour.
Building 1 is the creative heart of Skyline. It holds the Theater, the Art Gallery, and studios and classrooms for the Social Science and Creative Arts Division, including ceramics, sculpture, photography, and choral and band rooms.
The building was refreshed in a renovation that ran from 2022 into 2023. The work added an elevator and accessible restrooms, new LED lighting in the gallery, a new photography lab, a covered area for the ceramics kilns and a welding booth in the sculpture room. If the gallery is open when you pass, it's worth a look: it shows student and visiting artists' work.
Building 1 also houses some services worth knowing about, including the Undocumented Community Center, and SparkPoint, which helps students with financial coaching and basic needs. So even if you're not an art major, you may find yourself here.
Getting here: From Building 2, walk west along the path toward the quad. Building 1 is the large building on your left.
Did you know?: Wilma Mankiller, who later became the first woman elected Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, took classes at Skyline in its early years.
Photo op: Frame the building entrance from the quad path, with the gallery windows in view.
