A stop on Hong Kong: Star Ferry to the Peak, a free self-guided tour.

This waterfront promenade is Hong Kong's tribute to its film industry, inspired by the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It opened in 2004, then closed for a long makeover and reopened in 2019 with a new design led by James Corner Field Operations, the New York firm behind the High Line.

Look at the railings, not the pavement. The film stars' handprints, now in bronze tones borrowed from the Hong Kong Film Award statuette, were moved onto the wooden handrails so you can study them up close. The crowd favorite is the bronze Bruce Lee, about 2.5 meters tall and frozen in a fighting pose. Farther along stands a statue of singer and actress Anita Mui.

Across the water is Central and Wan Chai, where you are headed next. This promenade is also a favorite spot for the evening harbor light show. The long-running nightly A Symphony of Lights is being replaced by a new light festival format from 2026, so check the Hong Kong Tourism Board website for what is on.

Getting here: Walk east along the waterfront promenade from the Clock Tower, past the Hong Kong Museum of Art, for about 10 minutes.

Did you know?: In 2005 Guinness World Records recognized A Symphony of Lights, staged on buildings on both sides of the harbor, as the world's largest permanent light and sound show.

Photo op: Crouch at the railing so a handprint fills the foreground with the Hong Kong Island skyline behind it, or stand beside the Bruce Lee statue facing the harbor.
