imagiNATIONS Activity Center - Hands-On Play for Kids
A stop on Washington DC National Mall Walking Tour, a free self-guided tour.
The imagiNATIONS Activity Center, on Level 3, is the museum's play space for children, best for ages 10 and under. It is built around inventions and know-how from Native peoples across the Americas.
Kids can sit inside a tipi, help weave a giant basket, stack foam blocks into an igloo and walk through a model of an Amazonian stilt house. There is a reading corner with books by and about Native people, and a craft room for making something to take home. Many children pick up a passport at the door and collect a stamp at each station.
Space is limited and entry is first come, first served, and the center keeps shorter hours than the museum, so check the website before you go.
Afterward, head back down to the Potomac atrium and the Mitsitam Cafe, then back to the stop.
