Hahn Plaza - Rally Central
A stop on USC Campus Walk, a free self-guided tour.
You have looped back to the crossroads of campus. Hahn Plaza, where Trousdale Parkway meets Childs Way, is home to Tommy Trojan and to most of USC's big moments outdoors: pep rallies, concerts, protests, club fairs and celebrations.
Trousdale itself was once a public city street running between Jefferson and Exposition boulevards. Closing it to cars turned it into the pedestrian spine of campus, and on a weekday between classes it fills with thousands of students on foot, bikes and scooters.
Beside the plaza rises the Ronald Tutor Campus Center, opened in 2010 as USC's student union, with dining, meeting rooms and the alumni center. Before big football games, the Trojan Marching Band, known as the Spirit of Troy, often plays here, and you may hear Tusk, the Fleetwood Mac hit the band recorded with the group in 1979.
If you are here during rivalry week, look for students standing guard around the statue.
Getting here: Walk west from the fountain toward Trousdale Parkway, about one minute. The plaza spreads around the intersection with Tommy Trojan just to the north.
Did you know?: The Trojan Marching Band appears on the title track of Fleetwood Mac's 1979 album Tusk, recorded in an empty Dodger Stadium.
Photo op: Stand at the intersection and look north up Trousdale to catch Tommy Trojan, the Tutor Campus Center and Bovard's tower in one shot.
