STEM Center - Help with the Hard Problems
A stop on Foothill College Campus Walk, a free self-guided tour.
The buildings numbered 4100 through 4300 hold science, technology, engineering and math classrooms. Inside, room 4213 is the STEM Success Center, where students drop in for free help with math and other STEM subjects, both on site and online. Nearby, room 4201 is the Foundations Lab, focused on earlier math courses. This complex is also home to the Emerging Technology Institute and to The Village in room 4223, the center for the Puente and Umoja student programs.
These hilltop buildings show how the campus has grown. Kump designed Foothill for about 3,500 students, but by the early 2000s it was serving nearly 14,000, and in 2003 the college began renovating nearly the entire campus. Later projects were paid for by Measure C, a bond district voters approved in 2006.
If math or science is on your list, this is a place to visit on your first week. Notice how the walkways still tie each wing back to the library and the quads you just passed.
Getting here: From the Library Quad, walk a short way west and north to building 4200, home of the STEM Center.
Did you know?: In 1965 a Foothill lecture hall had response buttons wired to every seat so students could answer questions on the spot, an early ancestor of today's classroom clickers.
Photo op: Frame the walkway between the 4100 and 4300 buildings, where one classroom wing leads to the next.
