College Heights Stadium - Home of the Bulldogs

A stop on College of San Mateo Campus Walk, a free self-guided tour.

Below you, the hill steps down to College Heights Stadium, home of the CSM Bulldogs, who play in blue and white. The football field and track sit inside the oval, with the baseball and softball fields and the tennis courts nearby.

This layout was deliberate. When John Carl Warnecke planned the campus in the late 1950s, he studied the wind on this exposed hilltop and set the playing fields on the east slope, in places as much as 100 feet below the crest, where the buildings and hillside break the prevailing wind. The classrooms took the high ground for the light and the views.

The athletic fields have since been renovated with synthetic turf, a Mondo track surface, a press box and new scoreboards. The stadium has hosted the California Community College State Track Championships, and the Bulldogs field teams in football, baseball, softball, and track and field. If the gates are closed, the view from the path is still worth the stop: look past the stadium to the bay.

Getting here: From the College Center plaza, walk past the east side of Building 10 and follow Athletic Loop Road down the hill to the stadium, about five minutes.

Did you know?: When the football field was rebuilt for the 2013 season, it got a Bulldog logo about 20 yards wide painted at midfield.
