Hammerschlag Hall - Original Carnegie TechStop on Carnegie Mellon University, a free self-guided tour. One of the original buildings of Carnegie Technical Schools, Hammerschlag Hall anchors the western end of The Cut with its distinctive tower - one of CMU's most recognizable landmarks. Designed by architect Henry Hornbostel and completed in 1912, the building was named for Louis Hammerschlag, a prominent Pittsburgh industrialist and early Carnegie Tech trustee. Hornbostel also designed several other original CMU buildings in a distinctive style that blends Collegiate Gothic and Beaux-Arts elements. Today Hammerschlag houses the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, one of CMU's most celebrated programs and a department that has produced generations of innovators. Standing here, you can appreciate Hornbostel's original campus vision - a unified architectural language that still gives CMU's historic core its distinctive character.Stops on this tourThe Cut - Heart of CMU CampusHammerschlag Hall - Original Carnegie TechMargaret Morrison Carnegie HallCollege of Fine Arts BuildingBaker Hall - Humanities and Social SciencesGates-Hillman Center - School of Computer ScienceNewell-Simon Hall - Robotics InstituteRandy Pausch Memorial FootbridgePurnell Center for the ArtsCohon University CenterThe CMU FenceHunt LibraryWean Hall - Mathematics and ComputingTepper School of BusinessWarner Hall - University AdministrationSoftware Engineering InstituteGesling Stadium and Campus Athletics
