Salesforce Park - The City Above the Street

A stop on San Francisco, District by District, a free self-guided tour.
Finish your walk through the city's history above the street. Salesforce Park is a rooftop garden more than a quarter mile long, on top of the Salesforce Transit Center, which opened in 2018 on the site of the old Transbay Terminal. That 1939 terminal was built for electric trains crossing the new Bay Bridge and later served buses for decades.
The gardens are planted with species from different parts of the world, and a fountain along the walkway shoots jets of water as buses move below. Around you rise the towers of the newest city, including the 1,070-foot Salesforce Tower, completed in 2018 and the tallest building in San Francisco.
Reach the park by elevator or escalator from the street, and check current hours. From here the Ferry Building, where this tour began, is about a 10-minute walk along Mission Street.
