Topper's Rhum Distillery - Award-Winning Spirits

Stop on St Maarten Island Paradise Tour, a free self-guided tour.

No visit to St Maarten is complete without experiencing the island's rum culture, and Topper's Rhum Distillery is the place to do it. This boutique distillery has won over 25 international awards for their handcrafted rums, all made right here on the island. Upon arrival, you're greeted with a glass of Topper's famous homemade rhum punch a delicious introduction to what's to come. The tour takes you through the entire rum-making process, from fermentation to distillation to aging and bottling. You'll learn about the different types of rum and the unique flavor profiles created by various aging techniques and added ingredients. The highlight is the tasting session, where you'll sample up to 24 different flavored rums from their collection of over 100 varieties. These aren't your typical tourist-trap flavored rums these are small-batch, carefully crafted spirits using natural ingredients like coconut, passion fruit, coffee, chocolate, and local spices. Some varieties are aged in oak barrels, developing complex flavors that rival fine whiskeys. The knowledgeable guides explain the history of rum in the Caribbean and share stories about island culture and traditions. The intimate setting allows for questions and conversation, making this feel more like visiting a friend's distillery than a commercial tour. At the end, you can purchase bottles to take home, including limited editions only available at the distillery. This is a must for spirits enthusiasts and anyone interested in Caribbean culture.
