Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Main BranchStop on Best of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a free self-guided tour.Andrew Carnegie's greatest civic gift to Pittsburgh, the Carnegie Library Main Branch in Oakland is a magnificent Beaux-Arts building completed in 1895. Carnegie, who taught himself to read using the private library of a generous patron in his youth, went on to fund 2,509 public libraries around the world - and this was among the first and most beloved. The building's grand reading rooms, ornate ironwork, and soaring ceilings reflect Carnegie's conviction that free access to knowledge was the greatest gift a community could receive. Today the library remains fully active and free to visit. The adjacent Carnegie Music Hall, part of the same complex, is a splendid concert and events venue that has hosted performers for over a century.Stops on this tourPoint State Park - The Golden TriangleMarket Square and PPG PlaceStrip DistrictSenator John Heinz History CenterPNC Park - Home of the Pittsburgh PiratesAcrisure Stadium - Home of the Pittsburgh SteelersAndy Warhol MuseumMattress Factory Art MuseumRandylandCarnegie Museums of PittsburghPhipps Conservatory and Botanical GardensCathedral of Learning - University of PittsburghHeinz Memorial ChapelCarnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Main BranchFrick Art and Historical CenterDuquesne Incline and Mount WashingtonStation Square
